For several years I toured the USA with several of my theatrical productions, making a living but also aware that until I became a resident and eventual citizen of the USA, there would be an impenetrable glass ceiling limiting the possibilities of what I could achieve.

In fact, by the time I received my work authorization card -- meant to be the bridge between my old work visa and the permanent residency card -- the residency card itself arrived in the mail.
